EBoost Review!!!

So about two weeks ago I received my Holiday Vox Box '12 from Influenster! I also got a sample pack of EBoost in it in the pink lemonade flavor. I actually really liked the flavor of the powder and it made for a really easy drink in the morning instead of my normal coffee. I didn't really notice a bad after taste or a crash after a few ours but I certainly didn't feel tired or worn down for about three hours after I drank it. Please note that I received this sample for free and am not being compensated for my review. EBOOST's website: http://bit.ly/WrjF6M

Mommy Review: gDiapers

While I was pregnant with Parker I was being the good expecting mom and reading all the latest books, blogs, and websites about everything relating to babies and to be honest it was incredibly overwhelming. One subject that I kept coming back to though was the diapering delima. To cloth diaper or not? Everything I was reading was saying that cloth diapering wasn't that beneficial for baby and it was a lot more work for the parents. It wasn't until I was about ready to pop that I finally met someone who cloth diapered and was able to ask all the questions that I was dying to know about. The main ones being, how difficult was it really and how was cleaning the poop. After a VERY long discussion I was convinced that I could do it. The only problem now was that through family and friends we had enough disposables to last us the first five months of Parkers life and honestly didn't have much money left over to buy a cloth diaper stash.
I started to do my research and came across a company called gDiapers. At first I was in love just because of the cute factor. They make some pretty adorable diapers but as thrilled as I was about that I wasn't sold yet since over everything else these had to work! I read review after review and decided to try them out, and so began my search for the stash! I wanted to try a few before I loaded up on them so I looked around on eBay and ended up winning an auction for three new ones with the disposable liners. I originally wanted to use the cloth inserts but those would have to come later.
At this point Parker was four months old and as far as babies go he was pretty average build. I used the inserts for about two weeks and was honestly surprised at how easy it was. I had been expecting to be up to my elbows in poop and for it to smell awful. There is poop involved but no worse than a disposable diaper. So now it was decision time! I was in love with these diapers and how well they worked for my family. To this day my son has NEVER had diaper rash and always has a cute bum! I went from that first stash of three to twenty-five…they are a bit addicting! I love this product and I know it isn't for every baby or every family but for ours it has been amazing. I feel better about having my baby in cloth now and I can tell a difference with him when I have had to put a "sposie" on him. I love that I don't have a trash can full of poopy diapers every week and I love even more that I don't have to buy diapers…EVER!

House Party Day!!!

So a few weeks ago I was selected by House Party to host a Prima Barista Coffee Party. If you don't know what or who House Party is, they are a company that sends out these party packs full of free items to members who are selected with the agreement that you will host a party to introduce these products to your friends. Such a great company and great opportunity. This is my second party and honestly it was so much nicer and easier than my first. I ended up having almost 20 people over to my house with a bunch of kids. It was great to watch everyone play and the adults enjoy the awesome coffee. I think the adults were even having fun using the Keurig coffee maker too!
With my husband gone some days it is soooo hard to keep the house as clean as I would like, especially with Parker starting to walk, so this was sort of the motivation I needed to clean the house as well…feels so nice to have a clean house and empty laundry basket now though! I'm sure there are a lot of people that can relate to that!

My Baby's New Haircut!

So, today was a big day for my little "baby". He is growing up so fast and unfortunately so is his hair! I took him to get a haircut today at one of the few places here in Modesto that handles kids well. They have a "Lightning McQueen" power wheels for the kids to sit in and a TV with all their favorite shows. He was such a trooper! No crying, kicking, screaming, or embarrassing mommy! Parker is the new proud owner of a faux hawk! Yeah my kid is pretty awesome…not a biased opinion at all…okay maybe a little! It was so nice tonight because we were finally able to Skype with my husband since his ship got back into port yesterday so he could see his son start walking for the first time! Big day all around!

Busy busy busy...

So a day in the life of a merchant mariner wife:

0630: My son wakes up with his gDiaper literally exploding…oh what joy to wake up to
0700: Finish the diaper change olympic and off for some breakfast of milk (which he will finally take       from a sippy) and a banana which he never wants to share with me
0830: Diaper change #2 and thank God it isn't an explosion!
0900: My mom calls and wants to chat about EVERYTHING as I'm trying to get both myself and Parker dressed but now have to do it with one hand since Parker slobbered all over the speaker on my phone so now it won't work.
0945: Finally out the door and headed to playgroup #1 for the day at a local church here in Modesto,CA.
1000: Yay, we made it on time! Now an hour filled with my son trying to eat the paint, rice, music instruments, and whatever else he can stick in his mouth! It's all about the social interactions though right?
1120: Leave playgroup #1 after diaper change #3 and grad a quick bite at the Pancake Place where Parker eats 2/3 of a pancake and throws the other third on the floor…actually a pretty good ratio for him, he must have been hungry!
1200: Arrive at playgroup #2 at the local park where Parker gets to play on the baby playground and mommy gets to talk to some real adults! YAY!!! Topic of conversation was how the songs from our kids tv shows get stuck in our heads and drive us crazy (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is really bad for this!)
1400: Leave park and head home for a much overdue nap and diaper change #4 after which mommy picks up the toys from the morning and does dishes which never seem to come to and end. I'm lucky today and manage to get a load of laundry done too!
1630: Parker wakes up and wants a snack so rice munchies, applesauce, and milk it is. Meanwhile I manage to put a turkey roast in the oven.
1800: Dinner done! Turkey roast, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and carrots, with cornbread muffins.
1815: Diaper change #4 and wrestling him into his high chair! Dinner time for Parker! He has decided that he hates mashed potatoes now so they end up all over the walls…
1900: Dinner time for mommy…starving by this time!
1930: Bath time for Parker which is like sitting in the splash zone at Sea World…you're gonna get wet!
2000: Last cup of milk for Parker, story time, and bed! I breath a small sigh or relief because it was only after 5 minutes of crying that he finally settles down! Time to clean up the kitchen and pick up the toys from the afternoon. I sit down to watch a DVR'd episode of The Big Bang Theory.
2200: Shower an eventually bedtime for me…long day

A Little About Me

My name is Candice Dedini and I am married to a merchant mariner. If you don't know what that is I can sum it up for you pretty quick here. It's like being married to someone who is constantly on deployment (and yes sometimes in war zones) but without all the benefits of being a military wife or part of a military community. I can't say I was completely naive to what this lifestyle would entail when I got married because I myself worked on ships and graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy. I wasn't aware however of what this would be like now that I am a stay at home mom and my husband is still living the mariner lifestyle. Needless to say these last almost two years has been that hardest of my life which is why I'm starting this blog. On October 19th, 2011 my husband and I were blessed with our son Parker Thomas and thankfully Glenn, my husband, was able to be home for the birth. Since then it has been a roller coaster of ups and downs between being a midwest native that is suddenly transplanted into central California, and trying to make new friends, and then parenting my son by myself. I wanted to have a place for other mariner wives to come to get the support that most of us just don't have. This is also going to be an "adventures in parenting" blog since that is mainly what my life consists of these days. I love my husband and our little family but somedays its really hard to see that light at the end of the tunnel.
